Maryellen O'Shaughnessy was elected to Columbus City Council in 1997. In her work on Council she has been committed to providing excellent constituent services, listening to neighborhood concerns and providing the resources necessary to keep our community thriving.
As chair of the Public Service and Transportation Committee, O'Shaughnessy has worked to restore "Complete Streets" to the city's transportation grid, advocating for comprehensive sidewalk policies, safe bikeways and better public transit options. As former chair of the Utilities Committee and chair of the Development Committee, she has worked toward better, more sustainable growth policies, including Columbus's "21st Century Growth Strategy."
O'Shaughnessy has now decided to take her interest in community service to the county level, and is running for Franklin County Clerk of Common Pleas Court. In that role she will continue the work of current Clerk John O'Grady to make the office fiscally accountable and responsive to customer needs.
O'Shaughnessy is a fifth-generation resident of central Ohio, and comes from a family that has long been dedicated to public service. Active in her church and in many multi-sport events and outdoor activities, she lives in the O'Shaughnessy family's ancestral neighborhood of Victorian Village with her son, Colin and two dogs.
